Since 2001, the District has been run under the leadership of the Fire Chief and is divided into three basic divisions including Administration, Operations and the Prevention Bureau. The Operations Division is responsible for the bulk of the District activities and services. These services include fire suppression, medical care, public assistance and desert pest control.

This division is led by the Assistant Fire Chief with three on-shift Battalion Chiefs and a 40-hour Training Battalion Chief. These chiefs are responsible for day-to-day operation of the District along with 12 shift Captains. There are currently four fully-staffed fire stations in the Green Valley Fire District located in strategic positions to provide 24 hour services to the community. The suppression staff works 24 hour shifts on a 3:4 fire schedule working 24 hours on and 24 off for three shifts and then 4 days in a row off duty.

There are several specialty fields such as Hazardous Materials, Peer Fitness Training, and Technical Rescue. Each of these specialty groups offer different levels of expertise to this aspect of our emergency responses.
