GVFD Peer Fitness Team
The Green Valley Fire District Health and Wellness Committee was formally created in 2001 and currently consists of 5 certified Peer Fitness Trainers and a Division Chief. The goal of the committee is to support and follow the IAFF Health and Wellness Initiative, educate and promote proper nutrition, aspects of fitness and living a healthy lifestyle.
The committee works closely with the District's physician to provide the necessary attention to an employees' fitness level. The PFT's conduct the following tests on an annual basis:
- Push-ups
- Curl-ups
- Skin Fold Body Fat Percentage
- Grip Strength
- Flexibility (sit and reach)
- Body Circumferences
- Gerkin Treadmill
- 6-month Interview
Every 3rd month, there is a mandatory fitness drill for all suppression employees. The fitness drills give the opportunity for both the individual and their PFT to see where they are and what they need to work on. Only one drill is an evaluation of "Fit for Duty" and currently that is the Pack Test.
All data received is recorded into the PFT computer in a fitness program where the information is helpful not only for the PFT but also the individual. Using graphs, it is easy to see and comprehend personal gains and/or losses in reference to fitness and well being.
